Message I bought my Phillips HID kit years ago when they first started getting popular from Trevor. My kit has the original style metal case for the ballast. I got mine installed at United Auto Sales and ever since then occassionally when I would use my high beams, my low beams and fogs would flicker on and off or sometimes stay on all the time. I always assumed that this was a ground issue and since it didn't happen often, I didn't worry too much about it.

My HIDs are attached under the hood using velcro right next to the power steering pump area and the OEM fuse box area. You can see a picture if you like by scrollig through my photo gallery on my website ( too lazy to link it ).

Well for the past two weeks, my low beams and high beams have been staying on all the time. This didn't concern me until I started blowing the illumination fuse located in the kick panel next to the driver's foot.

I troubleshooted the problem by identifying and seeing a spark jump from the metal case of the ballast to an adjoining metal bracket and later again to the chassis.

My plan is to build a rubber case to hold the metal case to prevent this from happening. I imagine since the metal case was very warm to touch that this will shorten the life of the ballast if it goes unresolved.

I talked to Bernie about this last night on AIM and he states that Trevor sold a ton of this kits back in the day and that the new kits that he sells have plastic cases to avoid this issue.

Since there are so many of the old style HID kits out there, figured I would share.

Now back to work !

**** I am assuming that the metal case is the ballast, if not sorry about the incorrect label ****
